enjoy near to our hotels
Skiing and winter sports Darroch Learg is only a short drive from The Lecht and not that far
from Glenshee either. Culloden House for the famous Cairngorms, and
the funicular railway there. Alternatively from The Ballathie you can reach Glenshee well within an hour.
Horseriding in Scotland
Scotland is marvellous riding and trekking country. From tuition and
gentle riding to serious trekking and expeditions, most hotels have
good riding centres nearby.
Wildlife and nature
For wildlife and nature, Europe’s natural capital awaits you!
Fantastic wild life in abundance at all times of year. Many of the hotels have superb wildlife centres nearby – ask for details.
Just perfect for nature lovers and connoisseurs, and often guided
tours and trips can be arranged too.
Gardens of Scotland
Visit the glorious gardens of Argyll whilst at Cairnbaan. And Perthshire,
voted the most desirable place to live in Britain, several times over
the past ten years, has some of the most beautiful public/private
gardens in Britain. It has also achieved incredible recognition for
its floral displays by winning many competitions – must visits
are Scone Palace, Cherrybank Gardens and Branklyn Gardens.
Perthshire Trees
Whilst at our Perthshire Hotel, The Ballathie, take
time out to visit " Big Tree Country". as Perthshire is
known. Visit some of the most remarkable trees and woodlands anywhere
in Europe. A short trip from the both hotels takes you to Europe's
oldest tree, the world's highest hedge, Britain's tallest tree, the
sole survivor from Shakespeare's 'Birnam Wood', Europe's oldest living
thing (the Fortingall Yew est. 3000 - 5000 years old)...the list goes
on.
Art and photography
Scotland is an art lover’s and photographer’s paradise.
The prefect place for those who plan to spend part of their vacation
searching out incredible scenery and committing it to easel or film.
At all our hotels, soak in the splendour of Scottish scenery, try
the art of landscape photography, or simply try your hand at some
superb landscape painting.
Theatres in Scotland
Perth and Pitlochry Theatres are easily reached from The Ballathie. The Green is so convenient for Edinburgh and its international
range of entertainment. Enjoy the Byre Theatre whilst at St Andrews.
Near Culloden there is Eden Court Theatre at Inverness. Or try the
famous Gaiety Theatre, or the Civic, in Ayr whilst at Montgreenan.
Whale and dolphin watching Culloden House and Mansion House are ideally situated for a trip to
the Moray Firth coast. The Moray Firth is a very special place -
home to one of only three resident bottlenose dolphin populations
in the United Kingdom. There are thought to be approximately 130 dolphins
living in this part of Scotland and they can be seen in the Moray
Firth all year round. During the summer months in particular dolphin
watchers can see herds of 15 or more leaping from the water near the
shore.
Off road and 4 x 4 driving in Scotland
Centres abound in Scotland and again most hotels can arrange this
for you at nearby centres. Most notable are in Perthshire, with Knockhill,
MAD 4 x4 IT, the Scottish Off-road Driving Centre and Newton Hill
near The Ballathie – and not far from St Andrews either.
Or whilst at Culloden, a trip to the activity centre at Rothiemurchus
Estate is a must.

Most of the hotels have superb clay pigeon shooting nearby. Ask the
